Thanks to NetGalley and Hodder and Stoughton for the advanced copy of this title in return for an honest review.
Oh what a delightful book this was. Most of my reads are thrillers or crime novels or fantasy, but I do love a romance novel too, and after a run of quite hard-hitting books I was looking forward to losing myself in a romance and this was the perfect one to do so. Everything about it was just gorgeous.
Is it a little unbelievable and far-fetched? Probably. Do I care? Absolutely not. The world is going to pot, so sometimes it’s nice to enter a world where true love at first sight is actually real.
The chapters flit between Emma and Kieran’s POVs and they are short, which I prefer. And it helps speed the book up. I read it in a day, it was so easy and joyous to read. It’s an old fashioned romance novel and I loved it.
Emma is a delightful main character, she felt so real and familiar and I really identified with her. Kieran was also a delight, and I was willing them on the entire book, individually and together. They really make you believe in true love and I was invested instantly. There are many other characters and they’re all well written and do wonders for the main love story. Everything felt real. You could feel these were friends who had been friends forever, you could feel the familiar relationships and the workplace relationships. Just fabulous.
It’s not overly sappy. It’s corny but in absolutely the best way. It’s light hearted and cheerful but it does feature some difficult topics. There are high highs and very low lows, but it’s full of love and joy and above all, hope.
If you’re a lover of romance novels then you must get this one your radar now, you’ll love it. And even if you’re not a big romance reader you will still love it because it’s got everything a good story needs, regardless of genre. It was just a beautiful, beautiful book and I thoroughly enjoyed it and I highly recommend it.
